Question: whats everyone's opinion on string theory

It seems to mathematically describe lots of physical phenomena, and ties together some of the fundamental theories which must be linked in some way but we just don’t understand how – like gravity and the other fundamental forces. However there’s no direct evidence of it being true, so it remains a hypothesis for now.
