NASA is concerned about how a group of astronauts will cope on long-duration space missions, and what they can do to protect astronauts’ mental health and ensure that they work effectively as a team. One specific area we’ve worked with them on is measuring how stress and coping fluctuates day by day on a long duration mission. If we can detect signs that an astronaut’s mental health or the team’s functioning is beginning to deteriorate then Mission Control might be able to step in and help make it better.
