Tom Louth answered on 24 Oct 2022:
I was surprised by how much I struggled at university. I had found school easy but the maths in my degree was really hard for me. Other people from school found it much easier which was honestly frustrating.
I found it fascinating how much of the maths we use in engineering is exactly the same in several different disciplines. For example the maths that describes a car suspension is exactly the same as the maths that describes an electrical circuit

I was surprised by the huge range of backgrounds other scientists come from. Although we all work on the general topic of space, this isn’t limited to people who study physics or astrophysics at university. It also isn’t limited to those who go to university! My colleagues have a huge variety of backgrounds – some in geology, biology, art, project management, and more!
